Author Guidelines
Jurnal Lingkungan Binaan Indonesia (JLBI) adapts the standards of publication ethics as stated in the Core Practices of the Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE). These include the policies regarding authorship and contributorship, the procedure for handling allegations of misconduct, handling of complaints and appeals, handling of conflicts of interests/competing interests, policies on data and reproducibility, ethical oversight, intellectual property, AI use, journal management, peer-review process, and post-publication discussions and corrections.
To simplify the writing process, please download the Manuscript Template. The font used throughout the manuscript is Lato.
Article Structure
-
Title
The title must be concise and informative, clearly describing the research results, variables, and their relationships, as well as indicating the underlying theory used. The title should not exceed 2 lines in the provided template.
-
Abstract
The abstract must be written in both Indonesian and English. It should contain the background, problem statement, research objective, methodology, key findings, and limitations/implications (if applicable). The length must not exceed 200 words. It should be formatted in Lato 8 pt, with 1.15 line spacing.
Provide a maximum of 5 keywords written in italics. Keywords should capture the core, specific, and most frequently used terms in the manuscript, which are essential for indexing purposes.
-
Introduction
This section includes the research background, problem formulation, statement of purpose, literature review/prior related studies, and research implications that highlight the novelty of the manuscript.
-
Methods and Theoretical Framework
The heading for the theoretical framework may use the name of the theory or method applied. This section outlines the theoretical framework serving as the baseline for the methodology to generate the findings.
It must also detail the research steps clearly and concisely. If data collection is involved, explain the process comprehensively, ranging from sampling methods to data analysis techniques. For research involving human participants, human data, or animals, authors must explicitly state in the manuscript whether ethical approval was obtained. See the detailed requirements in Ethical Clearance and Research Ethics subsection below.
-
Results and Discussion
Results and discussion must be expressed concisely and clearly within the relevant scientific framework, rather than merely presenting a series of data tables or figures. Use sub-headings to structure topic discussions arising from the findings. Compare and contrast your findings with existing theories or similar studies conducted by other researchers.
-
Conclusion
The conclusion must directly answer the research objectives and should be structured into 3 distinct paragraphs:
-
First Paragraph: State how your work advances the field beyond the current state of knowledge. Without a clear conclusion, reviewers and readers will find it difficult to judge the value of the work and whether it merits publication in the journal. Do not simply repeat the abstract or list experimental results.
-
Second Paragraph: Provide a clear scientific justification for your work, highlighting potential applications and extensions, as well as the limitations of your study that may serve as directions for future research.
-
Third Paragraph: Suggest future experiments and/or outline ongoing research related to the topic.
-
-
Declaration of AI Use
Authors must clearly state the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the preparation of the manuscript. This includes, but is not limited to, the use of AI for translation, grammar checking, language editing, literature search assistance, and reference formatting. AI tools should not be used for content generation, image creation, data analysis and interpretation, or drawing conclusions. The declaration should be written transparently to ensure research integrity.
-
Acknowledgments
If necessary, an acknowledgment section may be included to express appreciation for contributions from individuals or institutions that do not qualify for authorship—for instance, personal assistance or institutional support not tied to direct funding.
-
Funding
Authors must disclose all sources of financial support for the research. This includes grants, institutional funding, or other financial contributions. If there is no funding, authors should state: “This research received no external funding.”
References & Citation Guidelines
-
Page Limit: Manuscripts submitted to this journal must be at least 8 pages in length.
-
Format: Every article published in Jurnal Lingkungan Binaan Indonesia (JLBI) must conform to the standard rules set forth in these guidelines, which refer to journals published by Elsevier (www.sciencedirect.com).
-
Reference Style: Citations and references must strictly follow the IEEE Citation Style. Authors are required to use reference manager applications such as Mendeley, EndNote, or Zotero (the use of Mendeley is strongly encouraged to assist our copyeditors).
-
Source Quality & Quantity:
-
At least 15 references must be cited.
-
80% of the references must come from primary sources (journal articles, conference proceedings, or research reports) published within the last 10 years.
-
The remaining 20% may consist of books, newspapers, or reputable web sources (URL and access date must be included). Avoid using Wikipedia as a reference.
-
Authors are encouraged to cite relevant articles previously published in Jurnal Lingkungan Binaan Indonesia (JLBI).
-
Verify every reference against the original source (author names, volume, issue, year, DOI number).
-
-
Citation Rules:
-
All publications cited in the text must be listed in the Reference section, including citations for secondary figures and tables. If a figure or table is adapted from another source, cite the original source to indicate the extent of modification.
-
References must be numbered sequentially in the order they appear in the text, enclosed in square brackets (e.g.,
[1]), and ordered numerically—not alphabetically. -
Any reference cited in the abstract must be given in full.
-
Unpublished results and personal communications are not recommended for the reference list but may be mentioned in the text. If included in the reference list, use standard journal formatting, substituting the publication date with "unpublished results" or "personal communication".

Ethical Clearance and Research Ethics
For research involving human participants, human data, or animals, authors must explicitly state in the manuscript whether ethical approval was obtained.
-
Requirement: Authors must include a dedicated statement in the manuscript (usually within the Methods section) detailing the name of the ethics committee/institutional review board, along with the approval number and date of issuance (e.g., “Ethical approval for this study was granted by the Ethics Committee of University X, Approval No. 123/EC/2025, on May 10, 2025”).
-
Exemption Statement: If the study is exempt from ethical approval or if human/animal subjects were not involved, authors must provide a clear statement explaining the justification (e.g., “Ethical clearance was not required for this study as it utilizes secondary public data / non-human subjects”).
-
Reviewer/Editor Verification: Reviewers and editors will evaluate the ethical compliance of the study during the review process. Manuscripts lacking this statement for studies involving human or animal subjects will be returned for revision or desk-rejected.
