Peer Review Process and Policy

A. Overview

Jurnal Lingkungan Binaan Indonesia (JLBI) adapts the standards of publication ethics as stated in the Core Practices of the Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE). These include the policies regarding authorship and contributorship, the procedure for handling allegations of misconduct, handling of complaints and appeals, handling of conflicts of interests/competing interests, policies on data and reproducibility, ethical oversight, intellectual property, AI use, journal management, peer-review process, and post-publication discussions and corrections.

Jurnal Lingkungan Binaan Indonesia (JLBI) is a peer-reviewed journal. All submitted manuscripts undergo initial editorial desk review, scope verification, similarity checking, and double-blind peer review before a final editorial decision is made.

B. Peer Review Model

JLBI operates a double-blind peer review model. To ensure objective evaluation, the identities of both authors and reviewers are kept anonymous throughout the process. Authors are required to upload anonymized versions of their manuscripts for review. Reviewers provide detailed feedback, section scores, and recommendations directly to the editorial team.

C. End-to-End Review Workflow

1. Manuscript Submission

Authors submit their manuscripts electronically via the JLBI OJS portal along with the required supplementary forms (Ethical Clearance, Scientific Publication Ethics Clearance Statement Form and Copyright & Licensing Statement Form).

2. Initial Editorial Screening

The Managing Editor conducts an initial screening to verify:

  • Alignment with JLBI's Focus and Scope;

  • Administrative completeness and compliance with the author guidelines and template;

  • Initial academic contribution and potential value.

3. Similarity & AI Screening
  • Similarity Check: Manuscripts are screened using similarity detection software (e.g., Turnitin). Manuscripts exceeding the acceptable similarity threshold will be returned for revision or desk-rejected.

  • Generative AI Policy Compliance: Manuscripts are screened to ensure that Generative AI use (if any) is transparently disclosed in the methods or acknowledgments section according to JLBI's AI Policy.

4. Reviewer Assignment
  • The Section Editor assigns independent reviewers based on subject-matter expertise, interest, and workload.

  • Reviewers confirm their availability and must declare any potential conflicts of interest before accessing the full text.

5. Review Phase & Confidentiality
  • Reviewers evaluate the manuscript’s scientific quality, methodology, novelty, presentation clarity, and ethical compliance.

  • Confidentiality & AI Restrictions: Reviewers must keep manuscript contents strictly confidential and are prohibited from uploading any part of the manuscript into unvetted Generative AI tools or third-party engines.

  • Reviewers submit their scores, detailed comments, and formal recommendations to the editor via the system.

6. Editorial Decision

Based on the reviewers' feedback and overall assessment, the Section Editor makes one of the following decisions:

  • Accept Submission: Accept without further modifications.

  • Minor Revisions: Accept subject to minor textual or formatting revisions.

  • Major Revisions: Require substantial structural, theoretical, or methodological revisions.

  • Resubmit for Review: Require major revisions followed by a second round of peer review (re-review).

  • Decline Submission: Reject the manuscript due to critical flaws or unsuitability.

7. Author Revision

Authors submit their revised manuscript along with a point-by-point response letter addressing all reviewer and editor comments within the designated deadline.

8. Copyediting and Layout

Once accepted, the manuscript undergoes language polishing, reference verification, and final layout formatting according to JLBI publishing standards.

9. Proofreading & Final Approval

Corresponding authors receive the layout proof to review and give final approval prior to publication.

10. Publication

The final article is published online in the scheduled issue, complete with full metadata and a unique Digital Object Identifier (DOI).
