Plagiarism Policy
Jurnal Lingkungan Binaan Indonesia (JLBI) adapts the standards of publication ethics as stated in the Core Practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). These include policies regarding authorship and contributorship, procedures for handling allegations of misconduct, complaints and appeals, conflicts of interest/competing interests, data and reproducibility, ethical oversight, intellectual property, AI use, journal management, peer-review processes, and post-publication discussions and corrections.
Submission and Screening Policy
JLBI utilizes Turnitin as the primary tool to evaluate the similarity and plagiarism status of all submitted manuscripts prior to sending them to reviewers.
-
Similarity Threshold: Manuscripts must maintain an overall similarity index of no more than 20%.
-
Screening Outcomes:
-
Similarity > 50%: Rejection (Desk Reject) due to severe overlap.
-
Similarity 20% – 25%: Returned to authors for revision and resubmission prior to further review.
-
Similarity ≤ 20%: Proceeds to the peer-review process.
-
-
AI-Generated Text Screening: Manuscripts are also evaluated for undisclosed AI-generated content or machine-generated paraphrase/spinning. Text generated or heavily manipulated by Generative AI without explicit declaration violates JLBI's AI Policy and will be treated under misconduct procedures.
The plagiarism screening process is conducted as part of Jurnal Lingkungan Binaan Indonesia (JLBI)’s responsibility to ensure manuscripts meet publishable standards.

Direct Quotations and Citation Rules
Any verbatim material extracted from other sources must be clearly distinguished from the author's original text using:
-
Block indentation (for long quotes),
-
Quotation marks, and
-
Proper source citations with page numbers where applicable.
Any content exceeding fair use standards (defined as more than two or three sentences or equivalent) or any reproduced graphical material requires explicit permission from the copyright holder and clear source identification.
Categories of Similarity & Misconduct Actions
-
Minor Severity: Short passages from another article reproduced without significant data or key ideas being taken without proper citation.
-
Action: A warning is issued to the author requesting text rephrasing and proper citation of the original source.
-
-
Moderate Severity: A significant portion of a paper is reproduced without adequate citation or attribution.
-
Action: The submitted manuscript will be rejected, and the author(s) will be banned from submitting manuscripts to JLBI for one (1) year.
-
-
Severe Severity: Large parts of a paper are plagiarized, involving the unauthorized reproduction of original empirical data, figures, or core theoretical ideas from other publications.
-
Action: The manuscript is immediately rejected, and the author(s) will be permanently banned from submitting to JLBI.
-
Reference Standards & Citation Tools
To maintain scholarly rigor and citation integrity:
-
Authors are required to use reference management applications such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote to guarantee accurate referencing and traceability.
-
Manuscripts must cite a minimum of 15 scholarly sources (preferably recent peer-reviewed journal articles published within the last 10 years) to ensure the study is grounded in a comprehensive scientific literature review.

Aditional Provisions
-
Self-Plagiarism: If a case of self-plagiarism by the same author is identified, the Editorial Board will evaluate the case. Repeat or unacknowledged self-plagiarism may lead to a permanent submission ban.
-
Text & Figure Reuse: Authors utilizing previously published text, tables, or figures (including their own prior publications) must explicitly cite the original work and obtain permissions if necessary. Re-drawing or modifying figures/tables is highly encouraged to avoid copyright overlap.
-
Third-Party Approval: Authors must identify the sources of all previously published material and obtain permissions from original copyright holders, including consent for interview transcripts or qualitative primary data where applicable.
-
Duplicate Submission: Submitting a manuscript to JLBI simultaneously with another journal constitutes Severe Plagiarism / Misconduct. Joint action will be taken by JLBI and the involved journal, resulting in immediate rejection and severe administrative sanctions.
-
Re-publishing Conference Proceedings: Manuscripts expanded from conference proceedings must explicitly cite the original proceedings title, date of publication, and obtain copyright permissions if required. Acceptance of expanded proceeding papers remains at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief.
-
Unpublished Visuals & Presentations: Authors are permitted to incorporate material from their own unpublished presentations or visual displays into journal manuscripts with appropriate contextual attribution.
-
Translated Content: Manuscripts translated from publications in other languages must explicitly identify the original publication (title, journal, and date) and secure necessary copyright permissions prior to submission.
Policy Enforcement & Compliance
-
The Layout Editor and Editorial Office maintain a record of sanctioned authors. If a banned author submits a manuscript, the system alerts the Editor-in-Chief for immediate rejection.
-
Authors are required to read the Plagiarism Policy prior to submission. Upon acceptance, authors must sign and upload the Scientific Publication Ethics Clearance Statement Form and Copyright & Licensing Statement Form confirming adherence to these ethical standards.
